STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: The Multipurpose Maxi

STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: The Multipurpose Maxi

It is no secret that a recurring trend this year is the maxi skirt.  Plenty of Fashionistas have embraced this item and cleverly incorporated them into their outfits. This student put a smart twist on this style by masquerading her maxi dress into a skirt by pairing it with an oversized tee.
This Fashionista chose a solid gray shirt that hit right above the hips to avoid cutting her torso off in the wrong place while elongating her legs. If you want be a little more daring, choose a striped crocheted top that is cut even shorter, like this one from Free People. By choosing a basic, solid maxi dress, it will ensure that you can pair it with any top in your closet. To avoid a dress that is too short (especially if you are blessed with amazing long legs), buy it a little long and spend the extra money to get it hemmed. There is nothing worse than a maxi dress that drags on the ground or is way too short.

  1. I've always wanted a maxi skirt but somehow never got around to getting one. I actually went into EVERY store at my local mall (F21, H&M, department stores) and non of them had a simple A-line black maxi. It killed me because that's the *one* trend that I wanted to try. I guess I'll have to go your way next summer and just buy a dress (which is great for double duty style :)

  3. Anna- I had the same problem, Found some great prints and styles at thrift stores but for one reason or another they didnt fit/ weren't flattering. After spotting this fashionista i looked in my closet and saw 5 dresses that would work!!! (of course it limits the tops you can wear it with , but its a start.

Retro Reva- I am a HUGE fan as well. i'll continue my hunt for the perfect maxi and post it under my fashion finds when i get it !
